1st Year Masters Student at Georgia Tech What sparked your interest in STEM? Getting involved with my high school robotics team Why did you decide to become a mentor for Stempower? I decided to become a mentor because I was once a girl scout and would have loved STEM activities growing up. I wanted to engage youth in STEM! What is your favorite mentoring moment so far? Conductive dough activity where we lit LEDS using Play- Doh. |
What's your favorite class and why?
My favorite class, surprisingly, was Marketing. I think the business side of product development/engineering is very interesting
What's a piece of advice you would tell girls who are interested in STEM?
To work hard and talk to others in the field that you want to pursue to see if it is something that you like. Learning from others' experiences is very helpful!

Major: Computer Science 2nd Year Student at Georgia Tech What sparked your interest in STEM? While my high school offered little exposure to opportunities in STEM, leadership roles and internship experiences encouraged me to explore STEM. Working for a technology startup incubator and startup company as a junior in high school inspired my curiosity for coding and led to choosing Computer Science as my major. Why did you decide to become a mentor for Stempower? When I learned about Stempower, it sounded like an experience I would have liked to have growing up--learning about STEM from students currently studying the field. I decided to become a mentor in hopes of sharing my experience and encouraging young girls to explore all opportunities. |
What is your favorite mentoring moment so far?
I love the girls’ enthusiasm and creativity. During the conductive dough activity, they were all so excited when they were able to complete the circuits to make the little bulbs glow. Once they understood how it worked, they morphed the dough into everything from glowing butterflies to light-up pizza.
What's your favorite class and why?
I really like the Education Technology class I am currently taking. The course content is highly relatable which allows me to make connections between class content and other activities, such as Stempower, that I am involved in.
What's a piece of advice you would tell girls who are interested in STEM?
Never doubt your abilities. You will learn and grow by confronting challenges even if they seem intimidating at first.
